History

August 1999: Maria starts seeing monsters on the news, including Gorillamon's climb of the Empire State Building. Her family dismiss this as an overactive imagination, and she soon forgets about it. She doesn't see the digital world in the sky or anything because of timezones and bedtimes.

April 2001: Patamon, clutching a digivice, divebombs the Larkin family car in his rush to find his partner. Maria spends the next two weeks nursing him back to health, laying the foundations of their partnership. Despite initial confusion, Patamon is accepted as part of the family.

September 2001: In her desperation to get to Ground Zero to help out, Maria evolves Patamon to Centarumon for the first time, and they gallop past some stunned traffic wardens, following the emergency vehicles to the site. Centarumon devolves once they're there, and they wander the crowds until they find other kids with digimon. Patamon joins the smaller digimon looking for survivors in the rubble; Maria passes around first aid equipment when asked. They meet Mimi and Palmon, but don't really manage to talk considering Mimi's English still sucked.

Busy with family and schoolwork, Maria doesn't really actively go looking for the other Chosen again.

Christmas 2002: Maria and Centarumon herd a lost and confused Tonosama Gekomon from a Dairy Queen in New Jersey to New York City, then, hearing more carnage at Rockerfeller Center, help Daisuke, Mimi, and Michael subdue a Cherrymon. They join the other American kids in watching the digimon return to the digital world.

New Year's Eve 2002: Belial Vamdemon covers the worlds in darkness. Maria joins the other kids in using her love for her partner to open a digital gate and enter the digital world for the first time, where she proceeds to help happy thought Belial Vamdemon to death.

Maria tries to steer clear of the digital world because that was kind of a terrible introduction to it; luckily the new dangers popping up only really affect Japan. She does, however, try to keep in touch with the American kids a bit more.

2005: As the barrier between the worlds begins to erode, her younger brother Nicanor also gets a partner digimon, Elecmon; Maria and Patamon are among the first in their family to welcome him.

2008: Maria graduates high school and starts a nursing degree at CUNY Hunter. Her little sister Isidora (Dora) gets DORUmon for a partner. Somewhere, the powers that be are laughing at their own wit.

Moar headcanon

Full name: Maria Christina Santiago Larkin; her family calls her Maricris but she goes by Maria at school (or people call her MC as a running joke about how gangsta she isn't)

Confirmation name: Catherine, for St. Catherine of Siena

Oldest of five: Nicanor is a year younger than her and also has a digimon partner (Elecmon), Francis is three years younger than her, Jerome is four years younger than her, Isidora "Dora" is five years younger than her (her quince is soon) and also has a digimon partner (DORUmon)

Family lives in West Nyack, but both parents work in the city

Immediate family and some of her very close friends know about digimon; extended family does not

Partner evolutionary chain: Patamon > Centarumon > Antiramon

Neat thing about having a flying partner? He can follow her around everywhere pretty subtly. It saves the awkward shoving into bags and "why do you carry a stuffed animal around; you're almost twenty" conversations.

In third year at CUNY Hunter because someone in this AU had to not get into NYU doing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Generic Pathway); lives at home to save money and help look after her siblings

Ten years old in 2002; turning twenty this year

Completely clams up when asked about romance in her own life: In the closet, and unhappy about this because she's Roman Catholic :( once in a blue moon she goes on the worlds' most awkward dates with guys.
